An ideal organisation to join

Having qualified as an accountant at a defence company, and developed my career at a leading UK IT company, VEGA seemed like an ideal organisation to join. VEGA, being a public limited company, was an added attraction. In May 2001, I joined VEGA’s defence business as Financial Controller.

Opportunities to develop

As Financial Controller, I am exposed to many areas including our large fixed price and consulting projects. I think this variety is a key attraction to many new recruits, offering opportunities to develop their career paths in both project based work, and client consulting work.

A tremendous atmosphere

The variety of my day-to-day work is matched only by a tremendous atmosphere and camaraderie that is demonstrated across all levels of staff in VEGA. It is not uncommon for any one of the executive management team to be engaged in a conversation with any member of staff at the coffee machine, on topics ranging from that weekend’s football results, through to thoughts on VEGA’s strategy. This is true across all of VEGA’s offices. This camaraderie is further evidenced by the many social activities, such as five-a-side football, bowling, squash etc, and in the fact that when required, teams across all disciplines pull together to produce exceptional business results.

Support and assistance

The opportunities to further my career came almost immediately. Continued reorganisation and focus on VEGA’s internal structure to best meet the needs of it’s clients, aligned with organic growth, now means that I look after a turnover base of more than three times what I did in May 2001. This career development has also been matched by the opportunity to develop myself by studying for an MBA with VEGA’s support and assistance.
