Joining VEGA
I studied Physics with Astrophysics at the University of Manchester, obtaining a Masters degree in 2002. I joined VEGA after taking some time out after University to travel around South East Asia and China. I chose VEGA because I’ve always wanted to work in the space industry, and wanted a job that was challenging and stimulating. I was looking for a company that would give me the opportunity to continue to broaden my horizons once I joined. The option to work at one of their sites in Europe was particularly attractive to me.
An exciting and varied role
I am currently working as a Junior Consultant for a growing space consulting group at VEGA head office. This is an exciting and varied role that requires many different skills and capabilities. Most recently I’ve been working on an Earth Observation Market Development project, the aim of which is to characterise the Earth Observation (EO) service industry and in particular the current offerings, working practices and financial health of the industry. An additional aim was to identify how to help the EO value added sector grow and prosper.
Team spirit
My role has given me a lot of contact with clients and key players in the EO industry, and has meant travelling to ESRIN (European Space Research Institute) on several occasions. The travelling is a particular perk of this job. Besides this, there’s a good team spirit at VEGA and I have also joined the Badminton group, which gets me out of the office and gives me a chance to meet people from other parts of the company.
