 Joining the team
I moved from Berlin to Darmstadt in 1998 to study Business Administration. As my degree was combined with Telecommunication and Information Management I decided to stay in Darmstadt and join VEGA in August 2002.
The role of Project & Finance Controller within VEGA GmbH offers me a challenging and very complex position. I have a role, which fully covers my interests and constantly gives me the opportunity to work closely with colleagues from both the financial and project sides of the business. I had no previous experience of working in the Space and Defence industry and I am enjoying the challenge of building my experiences.
Its not all about numbers
My interest in Accountancy and Finance really developed at university. Whilst in school I actually disliked mathematics for many years but I soon discovered during my degree that Accountancy and Finance can be very dynamic with incredible commercial applications.
I gained lots of experience and understanding for software development projects during my degree and whilst working for a software company in Malta. After this I became a project assistant in a software company in Germany and I learned how software projects run and how interesting they can be.
A dynamic role
As Project Controller I am responsible for the month-end reporting to VEGA Group PLC, our parent company based in the UK. At project level, data and results have to be accumulated, consolidated and analysed. At profit centre level, actual results are compared with targets followed by an update to the next month’s forecasts. I work closely with our Finance and Accounts teams both in Germany and the UK.
During the rest of the month I am kept busy with interesting tasks that are extremely varied and involve many aspects of financial control. I keep myself technically up to date with regular training courses, which allows me to refresh my knowledge, develop my skills and stay motivated.
A challenging environment
It is essential for me to work in a dynamic company, which offers a challenging work environment. It must also give me the opportunity to work in a professional team, with people, who support each other in all aspects of the work. I have found that VEGA is such a company, which has not only great colleagues to work with, but friends too.
